Through the gateway

Welcome: please come with me through the gate into a small oasis of greenery in the dusty outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. This blog is intended to introduce you (and me, for that matter!) into the secrets of sustainable and organic gardening in Egypt. To tell the truth, I’m not sure how I’m going to do it – either the gardening or the blog!

Five years ago I stopped writing: professional burnout, and how it hurt. Four years ago, we (my husband and I) decided to come back to Egypt, beautiful and fascinating, and my husband’s home country.

So, here we are in New Cairo, with a villa and, by Egyptian standards, a large garden. My task now is to design and implement ways for us to live as sustainably as we can. Yes, I know there’s turmoil, uncertainty, even distress in many parts of the country. But I believe the longer-term future of all of us depends on re-thinking how we live now, and resolving to make it sustainable. So here goes, just one small step…
